Senior Accountant

Saxum Real Estate, a diversified real estate investment and development firm with a national footprint and a portfolio in excess of $3.4B in capitalization, is seeking a highly motivated and detail oriented real estate professional to serve as Senior Accountant in our Summit, NJ office. You will be a vital member of our finance and accounting team and will be responsible for collaborating with our construction team to assist with verifying and processing of monthly development and construction requisitions and all associated documentation. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter with an intense entrepreneurial spirit, excellent quantitative and communication skills, a relentless attention to detail, and a passion for real estate. Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage the monthly financial billing and closing process including journal entries and supporting schedules for the balance sheet
  • Record amortization of prepaid and deferred expenses
  • Maintain fixed asset register, record monthly depreciation and amortization
  • Record debt service monthly, including principal amortization, interest expense, escrow accounts
  • Record management fee expenses, asset management fees, and other G&A expenses monthly
  • Conduct semi-monthly check runs / complete bank reconciliations / prepare and send 1099s
  • Process A/P including approval and coding of invoices
  • Manage A/R including tracking of tenant receivables as well as following up on delinquencies
  • Assist with developing budgets, tracking costs to budget, and compilation of construction draws to lenders
  • Assist with the organization and maintenance of project documentation, including contracts, specifications, change orders and other essential records
  • Support quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of project documentation
  • Support the tracking and documentation for internal project meetings between departments
  • Serve as point of contact to facilitate communication between Saxum’s accounting and construction departments
  • Compile financial statements and provide explanations for any Income Statement account(s) with variances in excess of prescribed thresholds versus budget
  • Assist with quarterly financial compilation as part of investor reporting
  • Assist with each investment’s annual tax and audit process
  • Prepare, review, and analyze tenant CAM charges and reconciliations
  • Collaborate closely with asset management, development, construction, and other departments to streamline processes and optimize investment performance

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Minimum 3+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Knowledge of US GAAP
  • Systems-oriented with a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to work with various accounting, property management, and leasing database systems (RealPage and Yardi preferred)
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a challenging fast-paced team environment

  • Can do attitude with a creative and innovative approach to resolving issues
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage internal and external relationships
